Delphine Mantoulet

Compositrice – Pianiste – Créatrice d’univers sonores

 

Biographie

Pianiste de formation classique, Delphine Mantoulet s’oriente très tôt vers le rock et l’électro, une passion affirmée lors de son séjour à Londres au sein du label underground Swan Island (1998-2000). Après une expérience chez Warner (label Yellow), elle rencontre en 2004 le réalisateur Tony Gatlif sur Exils (Prix de la Mise en scène – Festival de Cannes 2004), ce qui marque le début de sa carrière de compositrice.

Depuis, elle développe une écriture musicale profondément liée à l’image, s’inspirant des univers traversés par les films :

• arabo-andalou dans Exils (2004), nomination aux Césars

• slave et rom dans Transylvania (2006),

• années 40 dans Liberté (2010, nomination aux César, Prix CSDEM générique avec Catherine Ringer ),

• énergie urbaine et hip hop dans Geronimo (2014),

• mélange flamenco, rock et tsigane dans Tom Medina (Sélection officielle – Festival de Cannes 2021).

• Electro world sound design ballet dans Elbow competition officielle Berlinael 2024)

En 2017, elle signe la musique du spectacle Lala Bidoum, hommage à Claude Ponti, conçu comme un album continu de 80 minutes et présenté notamment à la Cartoucherie avant une tournée nationale.

En parallèle, elle compose pour le documentaire (Des Îles et des Joueurs, France TV, 2019) et pour la série (Rita Elquessar, Les Films du Nouveau Monde). Sélectionnée au Festival International du Film d’Aubagne et à Cannes Séries (2019), elle est également sollicitée comme jury dans des festivals internationaux.

En octobre 2021, elle est nommée Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Plus récemment, elle a composé la bande originale d’Elbow d’Asli Özarslan (Sélection officielle – Berlinale 2024, section Génération), la musique du court métrage d’animation Grandpa is Sleeping de Matei Branea et a co composé la bande son du dernier film de Tony Gatlif, Ange (sortie Juin 2025).

Delphine Mantoulet

Composer – Pianist – Creator of Sound Worlds

Biography

Classically trained pianist Delphine Mantoulet turned early towards rock and electronic music, a passion she developed during her stay in London with the underground label Swan Island (1998–2000). After working with Warner (Yellow label), she met director Tony Gatlif in 2004 on Exils (Best Director Award – Cannes Film Festival 2004), marking the beginning of her career as a composer.

Since then, she has developed a musical language deeply connected to the image, shaped by the cultural universes of each film:

• Arabo-Andalusian (Exils, 2004 – César nomination)

• Slavic and Romani (Transylvania, 2006)

• 1940s atmospheres (Liberté, 2010 – César nomination, CSDEM Award, with Catherine Ringer on vocals)

• Urban and hip hop energy (Geronimo, 2014)

• Flamenco, rock, and gypsy fusion (Tom Medina, Cannes Official Selection 2021)

• Electro world sound design / ballet (Elbow, Official Competition – Berlinale 2024)

In 2017, she composed the 80-minute continuous score for the stage production Lala Bidoum, a tribute to Claude Ponti, premiered at La Cartoucherie and later performed on a national tour.

In parallel, she composed music for the documentary Des Îles et des Joueurs (France TV, 2019) and for the series Rita Elquessar (Les Films du Nouveau Monde). Selected by the International Film Festival of Aubagne and Canneséries(2019), she has also been invited to serve on international festival juries.

In October 2021, she was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Most recently, she composed the original score for Elbow by Asli Özarslan (Official Selection – Berlinale 2024, Generation section), the soundtrack for the animated short Grandpa is Sleeping by Matei Branea (Best Animated Short – Cluj Film Festival), and co-composed the score for Tony Gatlif’s latest film, Ange (Official Selection – Cannes 2025, release June 2025).
